Timeline
October 2020 - December 2020
Context
I worked here as a UX Design Intern. This is a quick internship overview, explaining the type of tasks and processes I completed.
My role
While working at Upbeet, the startup was in its early stages of development, where we were still exploring to find our product market fit. This meant I had to work with the other designers and the CEO to really define our product and the space it filled.
My role as a UX Design Intern encompassed many responsibilities. I was tasked to research on our likely user demographics, conduct competitive analysis, and ideate with the couple other designers on the team. We also created a design library for Upbeet in Figma. I designed wireframes and prototypes for onboarding flows and early exploratory features. These were then communicated to design and development teams and user tested. Ideas were often tossed back and forth in the design team and were presented to the development team for feedback in constraints.
I can’t go into detail about our specific processes or challenges due to an NDA.
Learnings and Takeaways
Pacing
Working on a fast-paced team with a deadline for pushing our product MVP was tough and a learning experience. A balance had to be struck between making our deadline and paying attention to the details.
Teamwork
Learning how to work with other designers, engineers, PMs, and the CEO is a skill on its own. No idea shouldn’t be said, whether it’s good or bad.
Design Systems
Learning how to create, maintain, and train people on design systems was a good skill to acquire.
Iteration
Designing a prototype, testing it, and reiterating it was a common theme at Upbeet. Feedback on constraints, requirements, and usability were valuable.
